Today I’m going to share with you a simple camera trick that will make you look ‘more alive’ in your talking head videos.

If you tend to look a little sleepy or a groggy in your talking head videos, there’s a simple camera trick that you can use to kind of waken up a little bit.

Hey everybody, my name is Ryan Perry and I helped small business owners harness the power of video to generate new business. Today’s video blog is all about camera placement for talking head videos.

What you don’t see because it’s shooting the video is the camera in front of me on a tripod. I actually have it raised to about eye level and the reason why is when you do that, it now forces me, the subject, to look up and really open my eyes as I’m looking into the camera. If I’m looking straight ahead at the camera my eyes tend to close a little bit and therefore you’re not as bright or appear as awake. The other thing that I see quite often is when the camera’s too low and you start looking down at the camera. That looking down closes the eyes and that’s what kind of causes that are not fully awake or not as full of energy as you could in your video.

Next time you shoot your talking head video, be sure the mount the camera out about forehead level so that it’s looking down at you causing your eyes to open up looking up at the camera.
