Hi there, internet fans, Ryan Perry, and in today’s video blog, I want to share with you a shift in thinking from Gary Vaynerchuk, also known as Gary V. Now, if you’re not following Gary V, I highly recommend that you do, although he uses a lot of what people would consider foul language, he’s just very direct, he’s from the East Coast. And I’m going put a link below (actually, see link above), check him out, definitely worth following if you’re somebody interested in growing your business. This idea or shift in thinking that Gary was sharing was with a real estate convention. He was speaking specifically to realtors; however, it really goes to all business owners and especially small business owners, I think this shift in thinking can really catapult your business to the next level. And one of the first things that he said to real estate agents was that they should consider themselves the digital mayor of their town, and by that is essentially sharing everything that people would want to know about your individual city.
If you’re primarily selling real estate in Santa Rosa, you would want to be the digital mayor. What are the restaurants? How are the schools? What about public transportation? Where do you go for day trips? Where’s the air… All the things that people would be interested in if they’re moving into this area. Where are the local parks? Dog friendly. All the different things that go into being a part of this community you would want to share, so that you become a resource that the community looks to to find out what goes on in your neighborhood. And by doing so, you’re going to create so much credibility that people are going to want to buy the house from you because you’re the person that truly knows everything there is about your individual town, or possibly county, depending on where you’re living at.
When you make that shift of being a digital marketer comma whatever your business is, may it be realtor, dentist, optometrist, attorney, auto body repair, whatever it is, that’s gonna make a significant shift in the way that you think about marketing your business and how is that going to impact you moving forward out of 2017, into 2020, into 2025. Well, let’s go back 10 years. Where was your marketing dollar spent? What did you do? Those avenues are not relevant today. Spending money on radio for a lot of people doesn’t make sense. Spending money on TV ads doesn’t make sense. Spending money in the Yellow Pages, which by the way, Yellow Pages, it showed up yesterday, why? I don’t know. Why is the Yellow Page still relevant for business owners? I don’t know. The reality is, if you wanna be found, if you want to be seen, and you want to be credible, you have to be online. And a lot of small business owners go, “Oh, yeah, well, I tweet once a day or I post something on Facebook every now and then but it never works.” It doesn’t work because you’re not treating your company, your marketing approach, as a digital marketing agency, if you will. When you think about your company as a digital marketing agency comma dentist, you are going to create such a wealth of information online, and credibility online, that it’s going to be impossible for people not to find you and not to go and check you out.
I’d like you to take a couple of seconds and think about that, instead of saying, “I am a real estate agent, I am a dentist, I am an attorney,” what would the difference be if you said, “I am a digital marketer comma attorney. I am a digital marketer comma real estate agent”? How would that affect your day-to-day thoughts, and your day-to-day marketing, and your use of video?
